AAARF's Beloved Spokesdog
Cookie came to AAARF! in August 2000 — a battle-scarred, starved 19-pound dog once pictured on the covers of dogfighting magazines under a different name. With patient care he grew into a healthy, gentle 70-pound giant, and adopter Karen Cirrincione gave him a sweeter name and a loving home. For the next 11 years, Cookie became AAARF's spokesdog, appearing at home shows, dog shows, and community events, and helping raise more than $1 million for other animals in need. Cookie passed away in June 2011 at age 17 — but his story is still why so many other dogs get their second chance.
Patience Makes the Difference
Jonny, a Siberian Husky, came to our rescue partner SAFER after being hurt and abandoned by his owner. A leg had to be amputated, but he made a full recovery and now runs and plays like nothing slowed him down. He was adopted April 15, 2026, thanks in part to AAARF reimbursing SAFER's medical costs.
A Second Chance at Life
Ruthie was left behind in a yard near a veterinary clinic before a caring young adult took her in. When a heart murmur revealed a birth defect that required specialized surgery, AAARF stepped in to cover the cost of a heart specialist, giving Ruthie the second chance she deserved.
